When church records may be relevant
Older family records may predate local civil registration, or the authority handling a case may request supporting ecclesiastical documentation. In those situations, a baptismal or parish record may be relevant.
How the request works
I can contact the parish, diocesan archive or Curia when appropriate. Any issuance, certification, legalization, stamp or contribution charged by the ecclesiastical authority is separate from my service fee and remains the client’s responsibility.
Information that helps
Please send the person’s name, date and place of birth or baptism, parents’ names if known, and any clues about the parish. Existing family documents can be attached to the initial request.
Why can a church record matter? See the document checklist for the circumstances in which official consular guidance may accept a baptismal record.
